Bajaj Auto is working on a brand-new 125cc motorcycle for India. This new model is expected to launch in FY2026 and will likely carry the Pulsar name. Bajaj is aiming to strengthen its position in the high-volume 125cc segment with this new bike.
The 125cc market is huge in India. It’s where many first-time buyers and young riders begin their journey. Bajaj already has a strong presence here, and the company wants to take it to the next level.
Over 40% of Bajaj Sales Come From 125cc Segment
Bajaj currently sells four 125cc models. These include the Pulsar 125, NS125, N125 and the recently launched CNG-powered Freedom 125. These models are among the most affordable options in the sporty commuter segment.
Bajaj’s 125cc bikes together make up more than 40% of its total motorcycle sales. That’s a big number. So, it makes sense for the company to focus more on this segment. The 125cc category is expected to grow by 8–12% in FY2026. The new bike could help Bajaj grab a bigger slice of this growth.
Will It Be a New Pulsar or a Revived Discover?
There’s no official name yet for the upcoming model. But Bajaj is most likely to place it under the Pulsar badge. The Pulsar name is trusted and very popular among Indian riders. However, there’s also talk about Bajaj reviving the Discover brand or updating the discontinued CT125X.
If the CT125X returns, it would need major changes. The earlier model was built for value-conscious buyers and offered rugged looks. Bajaj could bring it back with sportier design, better features, and possibly a more refined engine.
On the other hand, if the new bike joins the Pulsar family, it will focus more on styling, performance, and sporty ride quality. Bajaj has been updating its Pulsar range with fresh design and tech, and this new model will likely follow the same path.
Focus Still Strong on 150cc and 160cc Segments
While the spotlight is on the 125cc space, Bajaj hasn’t forgotten about the higher segments. Bikes like the Pulsar 150, NS160, N150 and N160 still play a major role. These models make up about 22% of Bajaj’s total sales. The bigger Pulsars like NS200 and RS200 continue to attract performance-focused riders.
By strengthening both the 125cc and 150cc+ segments, Bajaj is trying to cover a wide range of customer needs. From daily commuters to college students to enthusiasts, there’s something for everyone.
Closing the Gap With Honda in the 125cc+ Market
Honda is still the leader in the 125cc+ motorcycle segment. Bajaj holds the second spot and trails by a 5–6% market share. The company plans to close this gap with its new products, especially the upcoming 125cc bike.
Between FY2021 and FY2024, Bajaj’s market share grew by 5.5%. It touched 25.5%, an all-time high. But in FY2025, the share dipped slightly to 24%. With new launches and an aggressive strategy, Bajaj is hoping to bounce back and climb even higher.
