Description

The Port Ellen Distillery was founded in 1825 and was always a very profitable distillery. This was until the events in 1929 on Wall Street where there was a Crash. This meant that the distillery was to end production and was converted into a maltings and also storage of barrels for maturation. The maltings now owned by Diageo supplies many of the other distilleries on the island.  The stocks from this now closed distillery are dwindling and they are now incredibly rare and extremely hard to find.

One of the rarest and oldest casks ever to be released and made publicly available direct from the distillery. With only 1,130 bottles available across the world this is one of the last chances to own a part of Port Ellen’s history. This is the second release in the highly collectable Port Ellen Untold Stories Series that explores the story of Port Ellen’s past ahead of the distillery’s return. Each precious drop of this exclusive 40-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is from 9 rogue casks. Dr Craig Wilson (Master Blender) has carefully selected nine special casks from the original stock, four American oak ex bourbon hogsheads and five ex Sherry European oak butts, to create a Port Ellen unlike anything seen from the distillery before. The casks celebrate the distilleries soft peat smoke, rich sweet aromas, aromatic spice and wonderful tropical fruits. This is Port Ellens history and an opportunity to experience the next chapter of Port Ellen’s Untold Story.
